Arsenal V/s Real Madrid as Aston Villa Welcomes PSG in the Champions League Quarter-Finals

After their triumphs of 9-3 goal aggregate against PSV, Arsenal now are set to meet 15 times Champions league winners Real Madrid. Arsenal who scored 7-1 goals in the first leg, drew 2-2 at home with PSV in non-pressured game.

Arsenal will meet with Real Madrid in the quarter finals before meeting either PSG or Aston Villa in the Semi-finals if they progress. They are looking for their first Champions League title to break the curse.

Real Madrid on the other hand, booked their place in the Champions League quarter final after a controversial penalty shootout with their rivals Atletico Madrid. After their 1-0 win at home in the first leg, the game changed when they landed at Metropolitano Stadium.

Conor Gallagher equaled the goal aggregate within 26 seconds of the game. This led to a penalty shootout.  Julian Alvarez’s penalty was ruled out after a VAR intervention. Julian Alvarez was seen double touching the ball in the shootout.

The VAR did not allow Alvarez to retake his penalty as expected. It was controversial for a VAR to rule out a goal in a penalty shootout itself. However, the referee was expected to instruct Julian Alvarez to retake his penalty. It was not the case. Fans and football professionals were left fuming from the decision.

It is not the first time for the VAR to make a shocking decision which left many fuming, it is now evident that Real Madrid could not make it if not for the VAR.

Real Madrid will face Arsenal in the Quarter finals. If they progress, they will face either super PSG or Aston Villa in the Semi-finals. This is after a 2-4 win in the penalty shootout against Atletico Madrid.

After triumphing a goal aggregate of 6-1 win against Club Brugge, Aston Villa will face the most inform PSG in the quarter finals.

PSG knocked Liverpool out of the Champions League in a penalty shootout. PSG game was viewed as a great one. Most people predict that PSG will get through to Aston Villa but this is football. Anything can happen on both sides.

How Many Premier League Teams Remaining in the Champions League?

Premier League had three teams in the round of 16 knockout stage. These were; Liverpool, Arsenal, and Aston Villa. After the round of 16, Liverpool left the stage after being knocked out by PSG in a penalty shootout.

Arsenal and Aston Villa are the only two teams remaining in the Champions league prepared to play in the quarter finals.

The Premier League is also in a pole position to secure an additional spot in the Champions League in the coming season. This could see up to five teams included in the Champions League next season.

This current season, Italy has the five spots in the Champions League. Next season, the Premier League will have a good percentage to land the additional spot.
